How much could your roof save you?

A quick, honest estimate of what solar — with or without battery storage — could generate and save at today's electricity prices. We install all solar PV systems; the figures below are based on our preferred panel, the integrated Marley SolarTile®. Slide, tap, and see.

Typical figures for each home — how many panels genuinely fit depends on your roof's shape, windows and chimneys, which the free survey confirms.

Self-use of your solar power is assumed at 40% without a battery, 65% with the EP6 and 75% with the EP12 (capped at 85% of your annual usage, since winter demand always outstrips winter generation) — typical figures that vary with your daily routine. Real generation depends on your roof's pitch, orientation, shading and location, confirmed by a proper survey and MCS-standard system design. Electricity price: Ofgem price cap, July–September 2026. Why integrated solar

Solar that's part of the roof, not bolted on top

We install all types of solar PV system, and our preferred choice is the Marley SolarTile® — a 445W panel that sits within the roofline in place of tiles, giving a clean, low-profile finish with serious wind resistance and a BROOF fire rating. Because we're roofers first, the roof and the array are designed and installed as one system. The SolarTile carries a 15-year product guarantee as part of a full Marley roof system, alongside our own workmanship guarantee.

445W per panel

High-efficiency (23.6%) mono panels — a typical 10-panel array is 4.45 kWp.

In-roof design

Sits flush within the tiles for a clean look planners and neighbours approve of.

Battery ready

Pairs with Fox ESS storage from 5.76 kWh, expandable as your needs grow.

Roof-first install

Weatherproofing, structure and detailing handled by time-served roofers.

Solar FAQs

The questions everyone asks

Isn't solar really expensive?

Less than most people think. Panel prices have fallen dramatically over the past decade, and domestic solar and battery installations currently carry 0% VAT. Because the system then cuts your electricity bill every month for decades, the real question is payback rather than price — use the calculator above to see what your roof could save, and the free survey gives you an exact quote with no obligation.

Does solar actually work in Wales?

Yes. Panels run on daylight, not heat — Welsh roofs generate meaningfully all year round, with a south-facing roof in South Wales typically producing around 950 kWh per year for every kilowatt of panels installed. East- and west-facing roofs still perform well. Our survey tells you honestly what your particular roof would do.

Do I need planning permission?

Usually not — most domestic solar counts as permitted development, and in-roof systems like the Marley SolarTile sit flush within the roofline, which planners and neighbours tend to prefer. Listed buildings and conservation areas can be exceptions, and we'll flag that at survey stage before you commit to anything.

Is a battery worth it?

For most homes, yes. Without one, solar power you don't use at the moment it's generated is exported to the grid for a modest payment. A battery stores it for the evening instead — typically lifting the share of your own solar power you actually use from around 40% to 75%. Try the calculator with and without a battery and compare.

Will it damage my roof?

This is exactly why we exist. Most solar installers aren't roofers — we are, with 40+ years behind us. The roof is assessed before any system is designed, and our preferred integrated system becomes part of the roof rather than something bolted through it. Our workmanship is guaranteed for a minimum of 25 years.

Do you only install Marley panels?

No — we install all types of solar PV system from all major manufacturers: on-roof, in-roof and building-integrated. The Marley SolarTile is our preferred system because, as roofers, we rate its weatherproofing and clean finish — but we'll always recommend what's genuinely right for your roof and budget.

What happens to electricity I don't use?

It's exported to the grid, and under the Smart Export Guarantee your energy supplier pays you for it — that's included in the calculator's figures. Export payments require the installation to be registered on the MCS database, which is part of a properly certified installation and handover.
